Built by Clyde Engineering at Granville from 1967, the WAGR L Class introduced high-powered EMD diesel traction to Western Australia’s new standard-gauge network.
The 26 locomotives were based on the EMD GT26C design, developed approximately 3,000 horsepower for traction and became closely associated with heavy freight and interstate workings.
